Tributes have been paid to a mum-of-three who died after she slipped on a coastal path and drowned in a tragic accident last week.

Saffron Cole-Nottage lost her footing on a slippery path at the foot of the sea wall in Lowestoft, Suffolk, at around 8pm on Sunday, February 2. It is believed she was trapped between large boulders, with rescue efforts from the coastguard, police and air ambulance unsuccessful.

Tributes for the 32-year-old were left at the scene, including from her partner Mike Wheeler and her children. She had two daughters and a baby son, reportedly born just a few months ago.

A card seemingly written by Jessica, 11, and Jasmine, 7, included messages which read: “My beautiful mummy, I love you the world ” and another said: “Mummy, love you”. A third said: “Dear mum, thank you for all that you have done for me. Love you lots, we will all miss you loads.”

42-year-old partner Michael penned: “My darling Saff. What can I really say, there are no words to express how much we will miss you,” he wrote. “The world is so cruel and to take you in this freak horrific way will not sit well with me for the rest of my life.

“You will be forever missed by so many and I’m really not sure I’ll ever be the same without you. Me and the kids will love you and never forget you, until we meet again.”

Messages from friends and other family members remembered Saffron as “beautiful”, “amazing” and “forever 32”. Another said: “U really are my best auntie”, with another reading: “Your light shined bright down here and you’ll shine bright up there”, paying tribute to a “beautiful daughter-in-law”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the tragedy, a friend of Saffron said: “I believe she was out with her dog and was walking on the path when she slipped and got trapped. I think she had one daughter with her. It must have been horrific.”

The area she was walking on is believed to be off-limits to people walking due to its hazardous slippery surface, the Mirror reports.

Emergency services were alerted that she had fallen into the sea, launching a large-scale rescue effort involving local police officers, coastguard officers, paramedics and air ambulance medics.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said: “Police and other emergency services were in attendance in Lowestoft on Sunday at an incident in which a woman died after a fall. The death is currently being treated at unexplained, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time. A file will now be completed for the Coroner.”
