Amanda Holden has opened up about a humorous disagreement she had with her husband Chris Hughes this week. Speaking on Heart Radio, the 53-year-old revealed that her spouse was left upset when he discovered she had put one of his clothing items in the wash.

She explained that with Chris often leaving his clothes on the floor, she scoops them up without a thought and puts them straight into the washing machine. After her co-star Jamie Theakston likened him to a teenager, she replied: “Yes it is basically, another one.”

Recalling the dispute between her and her spouse, she added: “He comes up and he goes absolutely nuts at me, ‘Oh my God why can’t I leave anything where I want, without you…’ and I said, ‘If it’s on the floor it’s going in the wash!'”.

Amanda said she then tried to reassure Chris that his clothes had only been put on an express wash, but he still wasn’t happy.

“Anyway, I left him to it and he literally hit the roof,” she added. From his reaction, she feared she might have washed one of his expensive Ralph Lauren tops, however swiftly realised this wasn’t the case.

Revealing he has a huge love for puppets and clothes that featured heavy metal bands, she added, laughing: “This is a real insight. If you know my husband Chris, don’t text him that I’m talking about this now, because I’ll get done when I get home.”

Discovering what he was being protective over, she added: “Anyway hung up, in our room where the washing machine is, is a hoodie and on the back is a huge picture of Animal from The Muppets playing the drums, and that is the top he was worried I had ruined.

“I said to him, ‘I thought it was going to be a super expensive Ralph Lauren or whatever’, and he said, ‘No, but it’s brand new and I love Animal’.”

Amanda often shares amusing stories about her 16-year marriage on the radio, including getting a tattoo without her husband knowing and their unique approach to playing darts. The couple married in 2008 and have two daughters, Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13.

Previously discussing the longevity of their relationship, the presenter highlighted the importance of humour and mutual challenges.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, she spilled: “The main secret behind a successful marriage is to have a b****y good sense of humour!

“Plus, I really fancy Chris. We’ll be eating dinner in a restaurant, he’ll go to the loo, then I’ll look up and catch a glimpse of a man and think he’s fit! Then I’ll realise, ‘Gosh, that’s my husband!

“I still fancy him. Also, Chris challenges me and I challenge him – that’s another secret to a good marriage.”
