Neil Lennon has revealed that he wanted to sign Antonee Robinson for Celtic.

Robinson, 27, has established himself as one of the top left-backs in the Premier League after a stellar five years with Fulham. Now rated at £40million, the USA defender has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. But ex-Hoops boss Lennon says the lightning-quick ace could have ended up at Parkhead in January 2020.

It was Celts’ last throw of the dice as Lennon attempted to rescue the club’s fading 10-in-a-row hopes. AC Milan then came close to landing Robinson during the same window, only for the deal to collapse due to a medical issue. That allowed Fulham to swoop for a bargain £2million six months later and Lennon admits the 50-times capped star was one who got away.

“One January deal we showed interest in was signing Antonee Robinson from Wigan, before he came so close to joining AC Milan”, he told casino-uden-rofus.co. “Sometimes you have three or four deals spinning at once and we showed a bit of interest when he was at Wigan, look at how well he has gone on to do for Fulham.

“There is a list of players like that but transfer windows can be chaotic as well as exciting. It’s hard to do decent business in that window.”
