BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -In celebration of the Black History Month, the City of Bluefield has prepared a range of events to educate and unite the community.
Nearly one week into February, Bluefield has kicked off Black History Month with new banners throughout the city celebrating the long list of its accomplished African American residents, both new and old.
The Vice President of Corporate Development and Alumni Relations at Bluefield State University says there is so much history in the community that even she is learning new details almost every day.
“It’s good to see such a variety and array of people that have done, so much either for the community on a local level, on a state level, and even on the national level,” said Dr. Deirdre Guyton, Vice President of Corporate Development and Alumni Relations at Bluefield State University.
Now of those events still to come, there is a movie night, tours, basketball games planned.
