Police have made an arrest after a fire at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in the early hours of this morning.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the Fife court building at around 4.50am on Thursday, February 6 following reports of a blaze.

A 21-year-old has been arrested and charged following the incident. They are due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday, February 7.

Court cases were thrown into chaos during Thursday morning after the court was locked down by emergency services who dealt with the blaze.

All business has been moved to an Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court Annex building on Brycedale Avenue. Accused and witnesses should attend as normal at that building.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 21-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident of wilful fire-raising at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, which happened around 4.50am on Thursday, 6 February.

“They are due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday, 7 February, 2025.”

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue added: “We were called to Whytecauseway in Kirkcaldy to reports of a fire. Crews from Kirkcaldy and a height appliance from Dunfermline were mobilised to the scene. We received the stop message at 7.17am.”
