Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso sensationally broke a 12-year record after he stunned the wrestling world at the weekend.
Coming into the showstopper, the former Intercontinental Champion was a rank outsider at 20/1 to win the WWE showpiece with CM Punk, Roman Reigns and John Cena leading the odds. However, despite the amount of support Uso has received for months on Raw, many fans expressed their anger online with his victory in Indianapolis.
Referred to by many in the WWE Universe who watched the Netflix showpiece as the biggest shock in the event’s history, he is now expected to face Gunther at WrestleMania 41 for the World Heavyweight Championship. And now his unexpected win has been further emphasised by betting aggregator Oddschecker.
The gambling firm revealed that the 2025 show generated at least DOUBLE the number of bets on Oddschecker compared to its previous six editions. It also saw more bets taken than The Oscars, The Masters (golf), and the Australian Open. But one statistic that will rile fans up is that Uso became the first wrestler outside the top three most popular bets on Oddschecker to claim the Royal Rumble title since they began recording data in 2013.
It rubberstamps many WWE fans’ claims that he should not have been the designated winner, especially given it’s John Cena’s Farewell Tour year. Responding to fan backlash, Uso said he was “humbled” to win adding: “That’s them, that’s your opinion, you don’t strap my boots every week. You’re not on the road like I am every week, like you said earlier, all the bumps, handshakes, all that side stuff that don’t nobody see.
“All the early flights, rental cars, we ain’t traveling with security guards around me. I’m in the trenches like everybody else man. I don’t pay no mind to that uce. If anything like, I don’t need none of that uce. I’m a just focus right here uce, tunnel vision. You either hop on the train or get off the train but there’s a lot of haters out there uce. They talk it because they can’t walk it.”
