Killie new boy Tom Wilson-Brown insists he’s targeting a European place during his short stay in Scotland.

The 20-year-old Leicester City defender was the club’s only move on deadline day last week and he’s keen to play a role in a successful few months north of the border.

And Wilson-Brown, who signed a new contract with the Foxes prior to sealing his loan move to Killie, believes gaffer Derek McInnes’ previous work with England ace James Maddison makes it the perfect next step in his career.

Maddison had a spell on loan at Aberdeen under McInnes in 2016-17 and has since gone on to chalk up over 200 appearances in the English Premier League while earning seven caps for the national team.

Speaking to the Kilmarnock media team, the towering defender commented: “It’s a great opportunity for me to hopefully show what I can do and I’m really excited to be here.

“I knew about it a couple of days before deadline, so I knew there was a chance of it happening. Going into the last day, it was quite early that I thought about getting prepared and packing the bags.

“The day got further on, but thankfully it got done early enough to prepare to get up here.”

He added: “The league’s obviously so competitive. You look at the table at the minute and it’s so tight. There’s huge clubs and massive stadiums in this league.

“They qualified for Europe last year and that’s something I hope I can come in and help them achieve this year.

“I spoke to the manager before coming and he’s obviously got masses of experience in this league and with young players on loan that he’s achieved things with.

“He was really positive. I spoke to him a couple of days before and it was a really good conversation.

“He knows how to win in this league and he’s worked with the likes of James Maddison and Danny Ward who have been at Leicester while I’ve been there and they’ve gone on to have really good careers.”

Killie aren’t in action this weekend with their next clash being a crucial Premiership fixture at home to bottom side St Johnstone on February 15.

The Rugby Park men head into that games sitting just three points off the top six and their latest signing is hopeful he can hit the ground running.

He said: “The aim is to get in the top six and we’ve got some important games coming up, ones we need to get points in, but I’m positive. The squad’s full of quality and they’ve got experience of getting into Europe in recent seasons so that’s definitely the aim now.

“We’ve got a free weekend so there’s time to settle in and get a lot of training under my belt and hopefully impress.”
