Shocking footage has emerged of a person setting Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court ablaze. The alarming clip shared on YouTube appears to show an individual pouring liquid from a can outside the front door of the court building on Whytecauseway.

The fluid is then lit before the person quickly jumps away as the entrance bursts into flames. The clip then shows the front door of the court in flames as the firebug films himself running away from the building.

Earlier on Thursday, officers confirmed the fire is being treated as wilful.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.50am on Thursday, police were made aware of a door on fire at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Whytescauseway, Kirkcaldy. The fire is being treated as wilful and inquiries are ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue added: “We were called to Whytecauseway in Kirkcaldy to reports of a fire. Crews from Kirkcaldy and a height appliance from Dunfermline were mobilised to the scene. We received the stop message at 7.17am.”

No trials will be held at the court room today, due to the incident. The building remains entirely shut off.
