A young seal pup had to be rescued after getting stuck in a river in the middle of a Scots town.
The animal was spotted on a slipway on the River Nith, near the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries, at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning.
The Scottish SPCA was contacted and an animal rescue officer went to the scene.
A spokesman for the animal charity said: “An animal rescue officer attended and saw no visible injuries and good body condition before it slipped back into the water.”
However, the young seal was spotted again later in the day, with reports that it had got stuck on the caul on the river.

Volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue then attended the scene and rescued the animal and transferred it to the Scottish PCA’s animal hospital at Fishcross, which a tag showed it had previously been at.
