Tesco is experimenting with a significant modification to its Clubcard loyalty scheme that could lead to bigger savings for shoppers. The retail giant is piloting a new initiative dubbed “Your Clubcard Prices”, providing customised discounts reflecting customers’ shopping trends.

A select group of customers engaged in the trial will get fresh bespoke deals every Wednesday via the Tesco app, remaining available for seven days, reports the Express. These exclusive offers allow repeated purchases of discounted items throughout the validity period and are instantly synced with the shopper’s Clubcard account.

To redeem these savings, trial participants simply need to scan or tap their Clubcard at checkout. Nevertheless, the trial is presently restricted to larger Tesco stores and excludes the smaller Express branches and online purchases.

A Tesco representative clarified: “We are currently offering Your Clubcard Prices to a trial group of our Clubcard members, giving them offers on products they regularly buy at Tesco, in addition to the thousands of Clubcard Prices available to all Clubcard members each week.”

Although Tesco has not disclosed the trial’s scope or duration, considering there are over 20 million Clubcard users across the UK, this prospective change might affect a vast customer base if implemented broadly. Presently, Clubcard holders amass one point per £1 spent in-store and online, or one point for every two litres of fuel at Tesco petrol stations.

Tesco shoppers can also accumulate Clubcard points through Tesco Mobile and the supermarket’s credit cards. A minimal tally of 150 points is required to snag a Clubcard voucher, which equates to £1.50 and can be splurged in Tesco’s retail outlets.

But Tesco isn’t the only retail giant offering bespoke bargains; similarly, Lidl Plus, Sainsbury’s Nectar Card, and MandS Sparks Card offer customized deals reflecting customers’ shopping habits. In light of the trial, Tesco has issued a reminder for patrons to utilise £17 million worth of Clubcard vouchers due to expire come Friday, February 28.

Dated February 2023, these vouchers remain valid for grocery buys, fuel, or transactions via Tesco Mobile. Shama Wilson, who helms Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty division, said: “We know our customers love the great benefits that their Tesco Clubcard unlocks, and we don’t want anyone to miss out on using up their vouchers before they expire.

“All you need to do is open the Tesco app and check the Clubcard tab to see if there are any vouchers that need to be used before the end of February.”
