Tributes have been paid to a motorcyclist with an “infectious smile” who died following a horror crash on a country road in Moray.
Steven Smith, 26, passed away following the incident on the B9014 near the junction with the B9115 at Drummuir, near Keith, at around 6.35am on Monday, January 27. Emergency services raced to the crash, which involved a black and white Honda CBR 125 motorcycle, but Steven was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Loved ones have been left devastated following the news and tributes have since flooded in. His friend Erin Patterson, who has launched a fundraiser to support the family with funeral costs, says he was “the kind of person who would light up a room just by being him”.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Erin said: “Steven, known by his friends as Stevo or Ste, was so full of live and had the most infectious smile and laugh. The world is a duller place without him and he leaves behind so many amazing memories for us all to share.”
Alongside the fundraiser Erin shared some images of Steven smiling in happier times. She added: “Below are some photos of our fun-loving, living-life-to-the-fullest Stevo. He truly loved making people smile, spending time with friends, making the most of every moment. He was the kind of person who would light up a room just by being him. He will so hugely be missed by his family and all of his friends.”
Over £600 has been raised of a £5,000 target to help support the family. Erin added: “For those who knew him, they know he would be the first person out there to put his hand in his pocket for anyone he knew. Not only for helping out in a situation such as this, but to help out in any way he possibly could. So please, if you can, help his mum and his family reach this goal and give him the send off he deserves.”

An 18-year-old man was also taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment following the crash. His condition is described as stable.
Sergeant Lesley Morrison said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. We are asking anyone who was driving in the area in the early hours of the morning and who may have seen what happened to get in touch. Please check dash-cams to see if anything that could assist with our investigation has been captured.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0410 of Monday, January 27, 2025. To donate to the fundraiser, click here.
