Virgil Van Dijk has left Liverpool fans in stitches after he trolled Richarlison during their League Cup clash.

The Reds faced a 1-0 deficit to overturn against Tottenham at Anfield as both battle to make it to the Wembley final. Arne Slot’s men started the game on fire as Spurs looked to sit back and hit on the break. Former Celtic defender Van Dijk was in a scrap for the ball with the Brazilian striker early doors, who hit the deck appealing that the Dutchman had elbowed him in the face.

The referee didn’t brandish a card – despite VAR looking at a potential red as Richarlison was sent spinning across the turf. The pair were pictured arguing for a few minutes after with the former Everton marksman demanding Van Dijk be sent his marching orders. The pair were still at it later in the half with Van Dijk appearing to offer to pull the Brazilian up off the grass – only to turn his hand away and jog in the opposite direction.

A number of Liverpool fans could not help themselves on X. One wrote: “Virgil van Dijk just offered a hand to Richarlison to help him up off the floor. Richarlison reaches towards it but Van Dijk pulls it away.”

Another said: “That’s unreal from Virg.”
