Spellbound Glen Durrant has described the epic clash between Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler as breathtaking and incredible.
The former multiple BDO World Champion and Premier League winner was left in awe at the devastating shootout between The Nuke and his Dutch rival on Night One of the Premier League. Littler smashed an astonishing average of almost 114, yet it still wasn’t enough to see-off Van Gerwen who responded brilliantly to the barrage to carve 6-5 a win.
Durrant, who was working for Sky TV at the Belfast showpiece, said: “I can’t think of a better game I’ve seen in a best of 11 game at the Premier League. It was absolutely incredible. We were watching it in the media room, it was breathtaking. Great to see Michael doing that.
“The reaction. But there was a lot of respect between them as well. It’s been an interesting couple of days. But just a real magic game, it really was. A nice touch there from the champ. I think he [Littler] has lost four games this year and his worst average has been 105. You’ve got to play well to beat Luke. Just a beautiful game.”
Unfortunately for van Gerwen, he was unable to back up that success over Littler after missing chances in his semi-final against Luke Humphries and losing 6-5 to the World No.1.
