Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has opened up about the much-anticipated revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The much-loved actress, 47, who famously played the lead role from 1997 to 2003, took to Instagram to express her emotions over the show’s return which she says is for “all the fans”.
She reminisced about the project’s evolution, revealing a connection with Eternals director Chloé Zhao, facilitated by Buffy producer Gail Berman.
On her Instagram page, she penned a touching message: “So….. you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me,” she started with a hint of playfulness. “I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as I’ve always done, I told Gail that I just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again,” Sarah said, outlining her initial hesitance.
“We’d always been aligned on that, but this time I heard something different in her voice.”
She went on, detailing her change of heart about the reboot: “I eventually agreed to go (mainly just to meet Chloé) and our 20-minute coffee quickly turned into a four-hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us,” reports the Mirror.
Furthermore, Sarah highlighted her awareness of the fan’s long-standing desire for a comeback, emphasizing her commitment to reviving Buffy in a manner that stays true to its roots: “I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit Buffy and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right.”
“This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.”
Concluding her remarks, Sarah expressed gratitude towards the fans for their continuous encouragement. She added: “I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love Buffy as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.”
The buzz around Buffy’s comeback has been confirmed by Variety, which stated that a sequel series might soon receive a pilot order from Hulu.
There’s also chatter about lead star Sarah approaching the final stages of talks to join the new series, set to play Buffy again, albeit in a recurring role rather than the main lead.
