Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl admits staying in the West of Scotland Second Division is top priority, and aims to use home advantage to claw their way up the table.

Goals from Jack McKirdy and Keir Milliken had Cambuslang 2-0 up against Kilsyth Rangers on Saturday, but a red card for Junior Gweth on his debut, and a raft of mistakes saw their visitors fight back to take all three points.

That left Camby just three points ahead of St Anthony’s in 14th, but with a game in hand, as they head into a home triple-header against Bonnyton Thistle, Forth Wanderers and Caledonian Locomotive.

McColl, who on Saturday is free of suspension, said: “We were up 2-0, but we were playing 65 or 70 minutes with 10 men. We lost a couple of stupid goals, but we had to take one of our strikers off to accommodate.

“We lost daft goals again, and you can’t be 2-0 up and lose 3-2 again to the same team!

“I’ve lost count of how many games that we’ve been winning and lost. Defensively we struggle at times, and the boy that got sent off is just new, that was his first game.

“It’s done now, we can’t reverse it, but to lose three goals when you’re 2-0 up is poor, it’s stupidity.”

McColl is well aware that puts his side into a dog-fight and he said: “It’s tight. If we won that game on Saturday it would have been a real boost, but we just need to stay in that league now.

“A couple of weeks ago you’d say to yourself ‘if we go on a wee run, you never know’, but now? We need to stay in the league.

“It’s ridiculous that we’re in that position, but the mistakes that players make I can’t get my head round, and it’s the same guys who are making them.

“On Saturday we’re a home, we have a break, then we’re home in the next two.

“We’ve got a chance to get a couple of wins at home, against teams that are round about or near us.

“We do really need to win. After those we’re playing against teams that are up near the top of the tree.

“We have a chance to rectify it against Bonnyton. They’re all quite similar, the teams, there are no easy games.

“Every game is a hard one, but we’ll get there.”
