A doorman has been ordered to pay £5000 compensation to a clubber he attacked.
Thomas Young’s victim suffered a broken ankle and a head wound during a disturbance at Downtown in East Kilbride.
Young, 42, of Currieside Place, Shotts, narrowly avoided a prison sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted assaulting the victim to his severe injury and impairment on December 16, 2023.
Two other stewards had their not guilty pleas to the charge accepted.
The court heard the victim threw a punch after being refused entry to the club.
He was then shoved to the ground, breaking his ankle as he fell, before being restrained and kicked repeatedly on the head.
CCTV footage of the assault was shown in court.
Sheriff John Speir had warned Young he could be facing a jail sentence, but after considering a criminal justice social work report the sheriff imposed a community payback order instead.
Young will be under supervision for 18 months and is confined to his home between 7.30pm and 5am each day under a 12-month electronic tagging order.
