Countryfile presenter and current Dancing On Ice sensation Michaela Strachan opened up about her journey on the show during Friday’s This Morning.
The 58 year old star, who has been impressing both the judges and viewers with her weekly performances, shared some personal insights, saying: “I think I’m one of these people, if someone asks me to do something, they challenge me, I will do it and I think that’s the same with Dancing On Ice.”
After confessing she nervously watched many of the programme’s mishaps on YouTube, reports Lancs Live.
Michaela said: “I was challenged to do it, I stupidly watched all of the accidents on YouTube.”
She went on to reveal her initial fear but made a remarkable statement about her standing in the competition, mentioning: “Once I got over the fear of that, I feel this is a challenge, I am the bookies’ favourite to win, which I feel really uncomfortable about.”
Reflecting on her approach to competing, she added: “I think, in myself, I want to be the best I can be and if somebody is better than me, there are skaters who are really good on the show, there’s a pack of us in the front there I think.”
Her enthusiasm was evident as she concluded: “If they are better than me, at the end of the day, or they’ve got more people voting for them then I will applaud them, it’s not about winning for me, it’s about winning within myself.
“I’ve got this far and I almost feel I’ve won in myself already as I’ve exceeded what I thought I would be able to do. I’ve loved the whole experience, I so don’t want it to end, I’d love to be in the final.
“Mark Hanretty has been doing it for 12 years, it’s his last year, he’s been in the final four times and he’s never got to do the Bolero. So that is my goal, to make him do the Bolero for him!”

Host Rochelle Humes then added her thoughts: “I think he’s got a very good chance this year! ” while Michaela expressed cautious optimism: “Let’s hope so but let’s see what happens! “
She also noted the unpredictability of the outcome, saying, “As I say, it’s the voting isn’t it, you can train and be as good as you can be skating but it just depends on who votes for you and who is the most popular!”
