The past two years have created an impressive dynasty for Kansas City, one that sets the Chiefs up for a historic win.

WASHINGTON — The 2025 Super Bowl will feature some familiar faces from the 2024 matchup — namely, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last year’s Super Bowl had Patrick Mahomes leading Kansas City to a 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The NFL’s first Super Bowl in Las Vegas was a sloppy, mistake-filled affair that was mostly boring until the back-and-forth fourth quarter and OT. It was the second of 58 Super Bowls to be tied after regulation, and the first played under new overtime rules that ensured both teams got the ball. Mahomes threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime, to complete their rally.

The win meant the Chiefs became the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since 2005. And with their rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, whom they beat in 2023, the team could complete the hat trick and first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.

A 2023 repeat and a chance at history

This is the third year in a row the Chiefs have made it to the Super Bowl. A year before defeating the 49ers, the team beat the Eagles 38-35.

It’s an impressive dynasty, one that sets the Chiefs up for a historic win.

According to ESPN, teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls nine times in the NFL’s history. None have made it back to the game for a third year, so the three-peat would be a historic first if Kansas City can pull it off.

The Kelce Bowl rematch can’t happen

Leading up to the 2023 Super Bowl, a lot of attention was placed on the battle of the brothers, as Jason and Travis Kelce (of the Eagles and Chiefs, respectively) faced off in the first brother-vs-brother Super Bowl.

But Jason won’t get a chance to redeem himself in 2025, because he retired at the end of the 2024 season, citing injuries and age.

When is the Super Bowl and what channel is it on?

The Super Bowl starts at roughly 6:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 9.

The game will be aired on Fox. Kevin Burkhardt will be the play-by-play announcer with former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the analyst. This is Brady’s first Super Bowl as an announcer. He won seven titles as a player. Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi are also part of the broadcast team.
