She wants to be a country singer. And which country singer worth their salt doesn’t have a ton of struggle and disappointment in their past? So, Rose-Lynn isn’t giving up yet.
She’s going to do whatever it takes to get to Nashville, where country music stars are born – and that’s a long way from her hometown of Glasgow.
Audiences can see Rose-Lynn’s story told in the incredible new musical Wild Rose, which is set to have its world premiere at The Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, this spring.
It’s a story about always being true to yourself, taking big chances, and realising that dreams come in many forms.
Due to popular demand, the show has already been extended and will now run from Thursday, March 6, to Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Featuring songs by country legends including Dolly Parton, Wynonna Judd, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Caitlyn Smith, The Chicks, and Patty Griffin, it’s guaranteed to send you home with a song in your heart, a skip in your step, and quite probably, a yearning to buy some cowboy boots and a guitar.
Wild Rose is based on the critically acclaimed 2018 film of the same name. Produced by Fable Pictures and directed by Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders), the film stars Jessie Buckley as Rose-Lynn and Julie Walters as her mother, Marion.
The heartfelt, uplifting movie was a huge critical hit and won awards around the world, including Scottish BAFTAs for ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Feature Film’, as well as a Critics’ Choice Award for ‘Best Song’ for the stunning ‘Glasgow (No Place Like Home)’, which is the anthem at the core of the new stage production.
The film was a passion project for BAFTA-winning writer Nicole Taylor who is carrying on that passion by writing the book for the stage show.
She’s joined by a team of incredible talents; Wild Rose’s director is the Tony and Olivier award-winning John Tiffany, who directed the global sensation Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and Once – a musical adaptation of John Carney’s Oscar-winning film, which won eight Tony awards.
Tiffany is a man who knows how to combine earthy, intimate stories with rousing musical numbers and visual spectacle.
Taking on the title role of Rose-Lynn is Olivier award-nominated Dawn Sievewright, a phenomenal Scottish talent whose credits include Legally Blonde in London’s West End and Twelfth Night at The Lyceum.
She brings the indomitable spirit, unstoppable humour, and soaring vocals that make Rose-Lynn the sort of heroine who’ll make you howl with laughter one minute and rip your heart open the next.
Sievewright is joined by Scottish acting royalty Blythe Duff. Known for her long-running role on TV’s Taggart, and a veteran of the stage in productions including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare’s Globe, Duff takes on the powerhouse role of Marion, Rose-Lynn’s mother.
She wants her daughter to be happy, but fears what will happen if she chases after the seemingly impossible.
Ultimately, Wild Rose is for anyone who’s ever had a crazy dream and wondered what would happen if they just took that chance and leapt into the unknown.
It’s for anyone who loves the good times and heartache of country music, and who knows that, when it comes to Scotland, there’s really no place like home.
