Cobra Kai may almost be over but the Netflix drama’s co-creator has talked about bringing at least one spin-off to life.

Having originated in 2018 as a YouTube Premium series, Cobra Kai has come a long way and is now one of Netflix’s most watched shows thanks to its blend of friendship, rivalries, romance and, of course, karate.

The end is nigh though as it was announced last year that season six would be Cobra Kai’s final series with the 15-episode run being split into five equal parts.

There are just five more episodes for subscribers to get their teeth into, including the last ever episode, which will drop on Thursday, February 13, on Netflix.

While Cobra Kai is soon going to be no more, co-creator Jon Hurwitz strongly hinted that the Karate Kid universe’s future is still looking bright.

During an informal Q&A on X, formerly Twitter, a fan questioned Hurwitz if any of the Cobra Kai characters could get their own spin-offs in the future.

To this, he simply teased: “I hope so. Actively working on it”, prompting fans to theorise who the one or more spin-offs could focus on.

Back in July 2024, Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg talked to The Hollywood Reporter that the writers are thinking about what’s next for the franchise.

“We definitely thought about that as we’re tying things up with all the characters,” he said.

“We think about the fun of following them in their futures and in, addition, we think about the past.”

Throughout the first two parts of season six, Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio) has struggled with finding out more about his own sensei Mr Miyagi’s darker past.

And when asked if a Mr Miyago prequel is on the way, Scholssberg teased: I would say that we definitely want to do that and have been talking about that.

“But the focus has been on Cobra Kai . As we’re finishing that up, we’ll see exactly what path we take in terms of spinoffs, but it is definitely something that we’ve been wanting to do.”

So could it be that Mr Miyagi’s story is the first to be explored once Cobra Kai ends?
