Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane was bizarrely asked to give Celtic a steer as he was pressed on a looming Bundesliga title showdown.

The England football icon was quizzed on an international feed aired by Sky Sports if he could put Xabi Alonso’s title challengers first just days out from a monumental Champions League showdown at Celtic Park. Kane was on interview duty after Bayern’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in which he helped himself to pair of penalty goals. A reporter enquired: “If you allow us to skip the game in Glasgow, the next one will be against Bayer Leverkusen. You didn’t win the last ones against them. What needs to change?”

But giving Celtic scant consideration appears a non-starter for Kane as he talked up the looming trip to Glasgow on the night he overtook Alan Shearer by earning an eighth season of bagging 20-plus league goals in a season. Posting on social media ahead of the clash with Brendan Rodgers’ side, he said: “Getting the job done! Another good win at home. Roll on Wednesday.”

It was a night of high emotion inside the Allianz Arena as angry fans protested kick-off times, and chanted ‘s***** DFL’, with a banner reading: “Werder Bremen: Friday in Munich – Friday in Freiburg. DFL: Enemies of the fans – enough is enough! Keep to the 300 KM rule on Friday!”

And Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, pressed on “bigger games” against Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen gently reminded an interviewer that every game is mammoth in Munich. He said: “You started so well by saying ‘every game is a big game’, so you have basically given the answer. I don’t think you win as much as we have won so far if you make too much distinction.

“I think you have to raise your level, always. But I think that is consistent, throughout the season. The opponents we play against, we are looking forward to it. It is a team who wants big challenges, it is a great opportunity.”
