A New Jersey cop couple arrested last week for allegedly having sex in front of children and recording the acts have been released from jail.
Brian DiBiasi, a 39-year-old Hamilton police officer, and his 42-year-old wife Elizabeth DiBiasi, a sergeant with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, were arrested by New Jersey State Police on Jan. 29 following an early-morning raid at their home in Hamilton Township.
The couple had been behind bars at Monmouth County Jail since their arrest, but were released Friday after appearing in Burlington County Superior Court for a bail hearing, NJ.com reported.
Conditions for their release include travel restrictions and the requirement that they can’t see their kids without approval from child protective services, an attorney for Elizabeth DiBiasi told the outlet.
The officers are charged with sexual abuse and child endangerment crimes, which Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin described as an “abhorrent” betrayal that has shaken the community’s trust in those sworn to protect them.
Both the husband, who has served on the force for 21 years, and his wife, an 18-year veteran of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, have been suspended without pay.
Hamilton Police Chief Kenneth R. Deboskey has also served Brian DiBiasi a notice of termination, Martin said.
Investigators learned about allegations against the couple after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Child pornography images allegedly first appeared on the social media app Kik.
In the images, the couple is allegedly seen having sex in front of children, NJ.com reported, citing court documents filed in support of the charges. Elizabeth DiBiasi also appeared nude in some of the images next to the children, who were also unclothed, officials said.
Brian DiBiasi was charged with permitting a child to engage in pornography, sexual conduct with a child by a caretaker, knowingly possessing/viewing/controlling items of child sexual exploitation or abuse, as well as distribution and storing of child pornography.
His wife was charged with sexual conduct with a child by a caretaker.
