A British Airways flight to Edinburgh was forced to divert following a midair technical issue.
Flight BA2216 from London City Airport was expected to touch down in the capital on Friday morning, February 7, but it was instead diverted to Prestwick Airport.
It is understood that the fault meant the aircraft would be unable to slow down on a short runway such as at Edinburgh or Glasgow airports.
Footage shared on social media shows the moment the plane touched down, and was immediately surrounded by fire engines and other emergency vehicles.
Edinburgh Live reported that passengers were able to disembark as normal, with a replacement bus service put on to Edinburgh after the airline made the “difficult” decision to divert the flight.

A passenger on the flight said: “The plane suffered a technical fault which meant the left wing flaps and engine couldn’t operate properly and therefore weren’t available to slow the plane down on a short runway such as Edinburgh or Glasgow.
“Passengers were extremely upset and quite terrified. Fire crews and emergency services were waiting on tarmac to escort us to the gate and the plane was retired for maintenance with replacement bus services taking people to Edinburgh.”
It is understood fire crews based at Prestwick were called ahead of landing as a precaution to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
