(Gray News) – President Donald Trump has declared Feb. 9, 2025, as “Gulf of America Day.”
During his flight to New Orleans for the Super Bowl, Trump signed a proclamation declaring Feb. 9 “the first ever Gulf of America Day” as Air Force One flew over the body of water.
Trump renamed the body of water from the Gulf of Mexico in an executive order on Jan. 20, his first day as president.
In a news release from the White House, Trump said the renaming is part of his plan to restore “American pride.”
“Today, I am making my first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming. As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America,” Trump said in the news release.
In his proclamation, Trump also said, “I call upon public officials and all the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.”
Trump is the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl in person.
