(Gray News) – Christy Carlson Romano was shot in the face this weekend while clay pigeon shooting for her husband’s birthday.

The “Even Stevens” actress announced the injury in a post on Instagram.

“There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,” Romano said in the post.

Romano said she was hit in five places, including one place less than an inch from directly in her right eye.

While she can see normally at this time, the actress said doctors will continue to monitor her.

“Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time,” she said.

She expressed gratitude toward her husband who immediately jumped into action to help her and take her to the hospital.

Romano also said she was grateful to be alive.

“I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” she said.
