“Your suggestion could be the one that stands for generations to come,” the city said.

KYLE, Texas — Roady McRoadface?

The city of Kyle is holding a contest to rename one of its roads as part of a review of recent construction projects.

South Goforth Road, which extends from Yarrington Road near the Kyle Logistics Park in the southeast part of Kyle, could be confused with Goforth Road, which runs from High Road to Niederwald Strasse in the northeast, the city said.

South Goforth Road was originally designed to connect with the existing Goforth Road, but changes to the project alignment require it to be renamed. The city said it plans to extend the road northeast to High Road, and a new name will help avoid address mix-ups and mitigate potential emergency response issues.

No residents or businesses will be impacted by the rename as the existing South Goforth Road section has no active addresses.

A road renaming contest will be held from Feb. 10-24.

“This is a unique opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the city’s infrastructure by suggesting a name that resonates with our community’s history, culture and natural beauty,” the city said in a statement.

Residents can submit their road name suggestions via an online form by no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24.

The rules for the contest include:

  • Profane, derogatory or discriminatory language will result in automatic disqualification.
  • Names that reflect the history, ethnic and cultural diversity, native wildlife, flora, fauna, natural or geological features or individuals or families significant to Kyle will be given extra consideration.
  • All submitted names will be evaluated against existing road names and landmarks to ensure there is no duplication or confusion.
  • Please consider the proposed name with one of the following “endings” of street, road, avenue, boulevard or parkway. Example: Kyle Parkway, Kyle Street, Kyle Road, etc.
  • The final selection of the road name will be reviewed and selected by the Kyle City Council.

“All residents are encouraged to participate and be a part of shaping the future of our growing city! Whether it’s a name inspired by the land, the people, or the natural surroundings, your suggestion could be the one that stands for generations to come,” the city said.
