Robbie Savage has floated a return for Steven Gerrard to Rangers to solve the current crisis at Ibrox.
It comes with Celtic hero Chris Sutton admitting Philippe Clement is facing massive pressure after crashing out of the Scottish Cup at the hands of second tier Queen’s Park. Callum Davidson’s men left the Glasgow giants stunned on their own patch with the Championship side all-but ending Rangers hopes of claiming silverware this season – with the Europa League the club’s only shot at a trophy this term.
Liverpool icon Gerrard has endured a tough management career since leaving Ibrox after being shown the door by Aston Villa before taking a gamble in the Saudi Pro League. However, his spell at Al-Ettifaq came to an abrupt end earlier this year with the club facing a relegation scrap.
After being shown the door by Ettifaq, Light Blues hero McCoist predicted that Gerrard would make a return to the club where he famously won the Premiership title back in 2021. He said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if Steven Gerrard came back to Ibrox.

“He’s obviously held in really high regard by the supporters because of the league title he won, and his next job is going to be vitally important for him. Things haven’t gone according to plan for him after he left Rangers. A little bit like Frank Lampard going to Coventry – his next appointment was really important to him as well.”
Welshman Savage floated the prospect on BBC’s 606, stating: “Rangers fans, would you take Gerrard back?” Baffled Celtic hero Chris Sutton responded: “What?”
Savage went on: “I am just asking the question. They do well in Europe, on Thursday nights. But domestically they have been miles off.”
Sutton added: “They have but people down south don’t understand this – second is absolutely nowhere in Scotland. Celtic and Rangers – two enormous clubs. I think Rangers have had three trophies in 12 years and that’s unacceptable.
“There is stuff about Celtic having more of financial stuff, but when you lose at home to Queen’s Park – a mid-table team in the Championship – that is really not a good look. The pressure must be well and truly on him.”
