Travis Kelce has been left reeling after Super Bowl fans booed his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, during the 2025 Super Bowl at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Swift was there to cheer on Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs as they faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles.
When the pop star’s image appeared on the big screen, a wave of boos from Eagles fans washed over her, leaving her visibly puzzled as she turned to rapper Ice Spice, asking: “Aww what, what’s going on?”
Despite the hostile reception, Swift managed to laugh it off, the Mirror reports. The incident didn’t go unnoticed by former President Donald Trump, who quipped on social media that Swift had a “tougher night” than the Chiefs, who were defeated by the Eagles.
A source close to Kelce told Daily Mail: “Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him. He always protects her and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.”
An insider has suggested that Eagles fans may view Swift as a traitor due to her Pennsylvania roots and previous support for the Eagles before her relationship with Kelce. The source also claimed that Kelce found it “unnecessary” for Trump to criticise the pop star.
The source added: “After Taylor being snubbed for a Grammy and Travis losing the biggest game of the year, it’s been a tough week for them.”
Kelce was visibly upset as he returned to his dressing room after the Eagles’ loss. Swift’s friend, Serena Williams, who was also at the game, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to show her support following the booing incident.
She tweeted: “I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those boos! !” Swift has become a talking point among NFL fans, with many commenting on the attention she’s received from the league and broadcasters since she started dating Kelce last season.
Even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed these complaints ahead of last year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, where Swift watched the Chiefs secure victory over the 49ers in a thrilling overtime finish.
When asked last year if Swift’s relationship with Kelce was a strategy to boost NFL viewership, Commissioner Roger Goodell dismissed the idea, stating: “I don’t think I’m that good (of) a scripter or anybody on our staff. There’s no way that I could have scripted that one.”
He also lauded Swift’s talent as an entertainer, saying: “She’s a remarkable performer. She knows great entertainment. I had the opportunity to go to two of her concerts with our girls and my wife, she’s the best of the best. So, having her come to NFL games, (to) have her (be a) part of that is nothing but a positive light.”
