A dead dog who suffered wounds to its neck has been found dumped in a Scots woodland.

The grim discovery was made by a member of the public in the wooded area of Covenanter Road, Harthill, North Lanarkshire, on Saturday. The animal, believed to be a Collie-type dog, was found wrapped in a blue fleece next to a public pathway and river.

It was also discovered with visible wounds around its neck. Officers from the Scottish SPCA have now launched an investigation into the incident.

The charity has appealed to anybody who has any information about the dog to come forward.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Colin Arthur, said: “We were called out to dead dog found wrapped in a blue fleece in a quiet woodland area of Harthill. Sadly, it looked like it had been there for some time.

“The dog was unfortunately not microchipped but looked to be a Collie type dog. It is unknown what has happened, but the dog did have some visible wounds to the neck. It is unclear if these wounds happened before or after death.

“If anyone has any information surrounding the circumstances of this dog, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
