Cameron Carter Vickers missed out on a reunion with old Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane when the Celtic defender was left on the bench for the USA’s clash with England at the Qatar World Cup.
But the pair are set to go head to head in Glasgow when the Three Lions captain spearheads Bayern Munich’s attack at Parkhead in their mouth watering Champions League showdown. And Carter Vickers has never hidden his admiration for the 31-year-old who has bagged 21 goals already in the Bundesliga this season. Like Kane, Carter-Vickers came through Tottenham’s academy but spent most of his 13-year spell out on loan before eventually joining Celtic on a permanent deal in 2022.
And the defender has previously spoken of Kane’s “top-notch” dedication and consistency, describing him as “a perfect pro.” Speaking at the World Cup before their respective nations clashed, Carter-Vickers said: “Training with him, you can see every day how hard he works, his dedication not just on the field, off the field as well.
“It’s top-notch, and you can see how consistent he has been over the last so many years now.
“That only comes if you are doing the right thing day in and day out. You could say that probably coming from the academy at Tottenham, you look up to players like him and other players in the first team playing well and consistently performing.”
Carter-Vickers was promoted to the first team squad alongside the likes of Kane by force Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino but he made just five appearances for the north Londoners.
However, he learned plenty from Kane and said previously: “Harry Kane was a perfect pro. He lived his life perfectly and was dedicated.In my position at the time, there was Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. For me at the time maybe they were the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League.That definitely helped. Just watching them every day in training I learnt a lot.”
