HSBC’s banking app has gone down. Thousands of “frustrated” customers have slammed the major outage, which has rendered them unable to carry out simple online transactions.
Complaints began rolling into Downdetector, a real-time service monitor site, at around 3pm today, Tuesday, February 11. Within the hour, reports starting climbing from around 400 into more than 1,000.
As of 4.30pm, more than 600 Brits were claiming to be experiencing problems. The outage map shows most of issues taking place down south, however there does look to be light activity in the Edinburgh area.
Nearly half the cases concern mobile banking and online banking, while 11 per cent of reports surrounding logging in to their online account.
Users have taken to X, previously Twitter, to vent their annoyance. One user directed their message at HSBC, writing: “I’m unable to login on the app or website, are your systems down?”
Another fumed: “Absolutely disgusting. I have not been able to access my account – being only told when I went into the branch – cant transfer between my own accounts and now apparently restricted.
“Have not eaten since yesterday as it’s my only account here – as of tonight I have no place to go”.
A third pleaded: “Please tell customers what is happening with online banking. I’m not able to log on via either app or website.”
HSBC has issued a statement on the mass disruption. A spokesperson tweeted: “We’re really sorry that some services are currently unavailable in online and mobile banking.
” We understand this is frustrating, and our teams are investigating the issue.”
