Celtic chiefs are anxiously bracing themselves for a fresh punishment from UEFA over the Green Brigade banner demanding Israel are shown the red card.

And the governing body have clamped the Parkhead side in the past over their support of Palestine and were slapped with a hefty fine which appears to fit once again. UEFA punished Celtic to the tune of £15,000 for “provocative message of an offensive nature”, after their Palestine flag display against Atletico Madrid in 2022 which also included a fan banner.

And now Celtic appear to be primed for more woe in the form of sanctions from the governing body. Article 45,01 of UEFA’s handbook states: “The match organiser, together with the police commander for the match and the safety and security officer, must prevent any provocative action being taken by spectators inside or in the immediate vicinity of the stadium (unacceptable levels of verbal provocation from spectators towards players or opposing fans, racist behaviour, provocative banners or flags, etc.).”

Celtic fans were spared being banned from an away trip to Munich after a flare landed on the pitch at Aston Villa but the Premiership champions have racked up a series of fines over the past 20 years.
