A man posing as an ICE agent punched, robbed and tried to rape a woman in a Brooklyn Heights building, police said Wednesday.
The victim, a 51-year-old Hispanic woman, was waiting for a cab in the lobby of a building near Montague and Henry Sts. in Brooklyn Heights when she was confronted about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, cops said.
“He said he was with immigration,” a police source said of the assailant.
But the attacker was clearly an impersonator, police said. He did not show the victim any identification as he forced her into a basement stairwell where he punched her in the face and tried to rape her.
He ran off with her chain, cell phone and purse and has not been caught, cops said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for cuts to her face and scratches and bruises on her body.
The NYPD released surveillance footage of the attacker and is asking the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
