Dumfries and Galloway’s Margaret Rutter was all of a flutter after being named the Washroom Technician of the Year for Scotland.
With more than 25 years service with Criffel Cleaning Services under her belt, it recognises her commitment to maintaining pristine and welcoming washrooms at the Annandale Distillery where she is their dedicated cleaner.
The distillery in Annan mopped up more honours at the The Loo of the Year Awards when it was unveiled as the national winner for Scotland in the Leisure category – receiving a Platinum Plus Award in recognition for its “exceptional washroom facilities”.
There was more celebrations when the firm’s The Globe Inn historic pub and restaurant in Dumfries, with strong ties to Robert Burns, also shone brightly in the awards.
It achieved a Diamond grading and secured the title of Hospitality Market Sector Award winner and Heritage Category Award winner.

It is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional experiences for our visitors, down to the smallest detail.
“Clean, well-maintained washrooms are an essential part of any visitor attraction, and we are thrilled that our efforts have been recognised by the Loo of the Year Awards.”
The Loo of the Year Awards, established over 35 years ago, are a benchmark of excellence for ‘away from home’ washrooms across the UK. With rigorous judging criteria encompassing 101 elements, including signage, décor, fixtures, fittings, and overall cleanliness.
Becky Wall BEM, founder of the Loo of the Year Awards, added: “Toilets and washroom facilities are often overlooked yet they are necessary and vital for us all and they add an extra sparkle for any event when these facilities are pristine, luxurious and hygienic.
“We encourage everyone to prioritise the ‘little rooms’ as part of their commitment to raising standards for their customers, staff and visitors”.
