FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) – 2-1-1 Day is going strong at the United Way. The state-wide program aims to help people who may be dealing with all sorts of unfortunate situations.
“So, what 2-1-1 does is we serve as a bridge to resources or a guide to resources that can help assist those in need for social service needs, utility assistance, rental assistance, homelessness services,” said Candy Travis with the Tygart Valley United Way.
Travis says that doing this kind of work is important to the community, and important to her.
“So, it’s really important for us as 2-1-1 community resource specialists, we listen, remain confidential we remain free of judgment, and we get these callers connected with the services to help them out and help them succeed,” said Travis.
2-1-1 set a record of 150,000 calls in 2024, and the program is growing even stronger this year. Referral specialists want anyone who needs a hand to give them a call.
“We are here 24 hours a day 7 days a week to help those in need find the resources to help achieve their goals in life,” said Travis.
