A woman turned to an unexpected hero – fizzy cola – to restore her sentimental baby bangle, which had been gathering dust for nearly 30 years. Taking to her _laurenscleaning Instagram page, 29-year-old Lauren Taylor showed just how effectively the soda can bring dull silver jewellery back to life.

Lauren, who lost her mother last year, revealed she had come across her baby bangle while looking at her late mum’s belongings in her childhood home. The social media creator, a mother herself, saw this discovery as the perfect moment to pass down the cherished keepsake to her own baby girl.

“As you’ll understand it holds a lot of sentimental value so I was really hoping I would be able to restore it,” Lauren said. She then showcase the simple cleaning hack that transformed the once-old, rusty bracelet into a gleaming, brand-new piece.

The process was quite simple – Lauren placed the bangle in a small glass bowl filled with regular cola. After soaking it for 15 minutes, she gave the bracelet a quick scrub.

Lauren went on to buff it with a piece of fabric, ultimately turning the bangle as good as new. The results stunned viewers, as an Instagram user commented: “This is lovely Lauren, especially being able to pass it on to your wee girl.”

A person wrote: “How special! So glad you managed to get it so clean.” Someone else penned: “Beautiful!! It came up lovely.” Another chimed in: “Oh wawwww stop that. How emotional. I’m so happy for you it came up so well for you. Beautiful.”

How cola works for cleaning

Cola can be used as a cleaning agent because it contains phosphoric acid, which acts as a mild acid that can help dissolve rust, limescale, and certain types of stains, particularly when combined with the carbonation that creates bubbles to lift dirt and grime. However, it’s important to note it’s not a dedicated cleaning product and shouldn’t be used for all cleaning tasks as it may not be effective against certain germs or surfaces.
