Adios, arrivederci, au revoir and farewell.

Duo, the green owl mascot of the popular language-learning program Duolingo, has died a violent death. The company behind the app confirmed the loss on Tuesday with a tribute shared across social media platforms, mourning Duo while acknowledging his controversial legacy.

“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formerly known as The Duolingo Owl, is dead,” the statement said, noting that an investigation into the tragedy is ongoing.

“Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson,” it continued. “We’re aware he had many enemies, but we kindly ask you refrain from sharing the reasons why you hate him in the comments.”

In an update on Wednesday, Duolingo shared a graphic — and very real —  clip showing what happened to the owl. It sees Duo loitering on the sidewalk before he is suddenly struck by a a Tesla Cybertruck, the impact of which triggers a fiery explosion.

“Reward for whoever can identify the driver. Please post any leads on Twitter,” the company wrote. “Thank you for your patience with us during these trying times.”

Duo’s untimely death sparked an outpouring of tributes, including from Grammy-winner Dua Lipa.

“Till death duo us part,” the singer wrote.

Baskin Robbins, meanwhile, commented, “Only the good (birds) die young,” while Squishmallows asked: “But where can we RSVP to the funeral reception?”

Netflix also offered up a social media post in Duo’s honor, featuring the little green owl getting eliminated from the “Squid Games.”

Founded in 2011, the Duolingo app offers more than 100 courses covering more than 40 languages. It relies on daily lessons, with users encouraged to participate as often as possible in order to maintain their “daily streak.”

“Our mascot was initially designed to encourage regular practice. But once the internet got their hands on him, he grew into a more complicated — even menacing — character with his own lore,” according to the Duolingo handbook. “He’s still cute and cuddly. But he’s also willing to temporarily relocate your family to ensure you finish your lessons.”
