North Fest Family held their first OAP Tea Dance recently in Motherwell.

Last summer Lynn McFarlane decided to organise a family festival so local children could enjoy a fantastic fun day during the summer holidays.

The gran , who is mum of three grown-up children, decided that as there hadn’t been a gala day in the community for over 30 years she would mobilise people in the community and organise an event in North Motherwell that would provide great memories for youngsters for years to come.

Lynn and her team set up a GoFundMe page which raised £7000 and the North Fest Family was formed. The event proved a great success and the team decided to keep the momentum going, recently they held an event for the more seasoned generations in the local community.

On Saturday, February 8 they organised a tea dance which took place in St Bernadette’s Church hall in Logans Road in the town.

Lynn said: “The tea dance was enjoyed by many. We invited all the residents and staff from the nursing homes and sheltered homes complexes in North Motherwell as well as the local elderly residents. They had a absolute ball.

“The entertainment was by Jamie Connelly who had them up dancing.

“The team would like to thank Community Empowerment Funding at North Lanarkshire Council for helping to make this happen in the community.

“We would also like to thank the following companies for their donations, Bell’s, Chapman’s Butchers, Tunnock’s and Denholm Bakers.

“It was a huge success and we have another one planned to take place in May.”
