CAVE SPRING, Va. (WDBJ) – 22 years ago, Cave Spring native NFL cornerback Ronde Barber won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer graduated and played at Cave Spring High School and UVA.
Prior to that 2003 Super Bowl win, Tampa Bay went 12-4 in wins-losses for the 2002-2003 regular season. Ronde Barber finished the season with three sacks, two interceptions, and 19 pass deflections.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Oakland Raiders in dominating fashion with a final score of 48-21 to win the Super Bowl. Barber contributed five tackles in the game.
Bringing the Lombardi Trophy home, the Buccaneers were greeted at Raymond James Stadium by several fans who had waited over 26 years to celebrate a Super Bowl win. Ronde Barber was the final player to address the crowd at the celebration.
Ronde Barber played all 16 seasons with the Buccaneers, finishing his Hall of Fame career with 47 interceptions, 28 sacks, 14 touchdowns, five Pro Bowl appearances, and the most prestigious accolade, Super Bowl champion.
