AUSTIN, Texas — A piece of Texas film history is up for sale in Austin’s Allendale neighborhood.
A house featured in the 1993 cult classic film “Dazed and Confused” is on the market. In the film, the house is home to incoming freshman Mitch Kramer, who spends the night after his last day of junior high dodging hazing rituals and trying to get in with the incoming seniors.
The film, directed by Texas-born filmmaker Richard Linklater, is famous for launching the career of Oscar winner and Austin-area resident Matthew McConaughey. It also features early performances from Ben Affleck, Parker Posey and Milla Jovovich.
The “Kramer” home, located at 6806 Pioneer Place, was built in 1964 but has since been renovated. It sits on a 9,330-square-foot lot and features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two office spaces and a converted garage-turned-game room.
While the inside of the home bears little resemblance to the ’70s aesthetic of “Dazed and Confused,” CultureMap Austin does note that the front doors and shutters have been painted a light blue to match one of the film’s most iconic scenes.
The house was listed on Zillow for $950,000 about a week ago. The listing is managed by Compass agents Chris and Marjorie Tinnell, and the listing has a bit of fun with the house’s history, incorporating two of the most famous lines delivered by McConaughey’s character, Wooderson.
“Alright, alright, alright! Own a piece of movie history with this iconic home from Dazed and Confused!” the listing begins before going on, “You gotta keep livin’, man – L-I-V-I-N –and this is the perfect place to do it!”
