Luke Littler and Luke Humphries had their Premier League Darts final at the Hydro was hijacked by more moronic whistlers.

Earlier in the evening, Gerwyn Price responded to a crowd heckle with a retort of the screech of his own. But, instead of going away, the situation got even worse and left both superstars dismayed during their showpiece shootout. Humphries was regularly irriated during the match as someone to his right-hand of the stage constantly put him off.

Referee Kirk Bevans shouted at the offender to “Stop whistling” and immediately more launched into doing the same as Littler threw next. The Nuke also showed his displeasure at the actions which spoiled a brilliant match between the World Champion and World No.1 which ended with Littler securing a 6-5 success.

Littler said: “It was a weird final. We both weren’t playing well. I was looking up at the screen and we both had a 90 average. It was a weird game.

“Obviously the crowd got involved. Referee Kirk made them worse and I missed my shot and Luke went 5-4 up. I done well to hit a 10-darter and 11-darter, that’s crucial.

“The Pro Tour was good match practice. I used the gold darts and came back here and used them. Throwing really well in practice and was 5-1 down to Rob Cross, I just had to pull it out the bag and I did.

“I think getting past Rob, the comeback was unbelievable. It’s all down to myself taking it up just touching 105 average. I felt really confident against Michael, but then the final, a weird, weird game.”
