Blackburn Rovers have been left reeling by the departure of their manager after John Eustace took over at Derby County.
Eustace stunned the Ewood Park outfit by walking out on promotion-chasing Rovers – who sit fifth in the Championship – for a relegation scrap with the Rams. It’s left the Blue and Whites scrambling to find a new manager midway through the season, with assistant Matt Gardiner and first-team coach Keith Downing also heading to Pride Park.
It’s understood Eustace was keen to move closer to his family, who live in the Midlands, and despite being at opposite ends of the table, was enticed by the long-term project at Derby. Now, Blackburn chiefs are desperately searching for a successor who can keep them in the playoff hunt, with former England interim manager Lee Carsley the current BonusCodeBets favourite at 7/4.
Carsley – who temporarily replaced Gareth Southgate for the final months of 2024 – spent two years as a player at Ewood Park. However, aside from a handful of caretaker stints, the England U21 gaffer has yet to manage full-time at the club level. Former Bournemouth and Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, priced at 6/1, is another name who is among the frontrunners for the role. Rob Edwards has also been heavily linked, a month on from his sacking at Luton Town.
