AUSTIN, Texas — Super Bowl LIX was a forgettable performance for the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Philadelphia Eagles decimated their chances at a third straight championship on Sunday.
However, there was a lone bright spot for the Chiefs, as rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy became the first Texas Longhorn to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Worthy snagged a 24-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes near the end of the third quarter to finally put the Chiefs on the board, 34-6. Despite the play coming with the game already out of hand, it didn’t take away from Worthy’s acrobatic dive to catch the ball in the end zone.

Not to be outdone, Worthy would rip through the defense one more time near the end of the game, beating two defenders for another falling touchdown catch in the end zone. The 50-yard touchdown grab would help Worthy cap his night with eight catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

What Xavier Worthy said after the game
Worthy spoke to the media after the game and credited his teammates for such a successful rookie season despite the team coming up short.
“I just want to think the guys in my [receiving] room,” Worthy said. “This might be my last time playing with some of them… These guys really helped me out a lot this year just in my development as a man and as a player in this league.”
Worthy’s performance also broke the rookie record for most receiving yards in the Super Bowl, previously held by Seattle Seahawks’ Chris Matthews and St. Louis Rams’ Torry Holt.
