Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has welcomed the news that over 6,000 properties in South Lanarkshire received £30.3 million worth of non-domestic rates relief in 2024.
Scottish Government schemes, like the Small Business Bonus Scheme, can offer eligible organisations up to 100 per cent rates relief – with 5,180 organisations in South Lanarkshire being lifted out of paying non-domestic rates altogether.
Ms Haughey has welcomed these figures, which she says show the value that the Scottish Government places on supporting small business and organisations in local area.
She said: “I welcome the news that over 6,000 organisations in South Lanarkshire have received £30.3 million worth of rates relief in 2024, thanks to Scottish Government policies.
“This includes 100 per cent rates relief for 5,180 eligible small businesses and organisations in South Lanarkshire alone – a really significant number.
“Scotland’s rates relief policies are the most generous anywhere in the UK, with over 95 per cent of non-domestic properties in Scotland expected to pay less property tax than elsewhere in the UK, and over 100,000 taken out of paying rates altogether in 2025-26.
“At a time when businesses are struggling, the substantial level of rates relief offered in Scotland will be a lifeline for many small businesses and organisations, showing the value that the SNP places on supporting them.”
