More than £3.5 million of additional capital and revenue funding has been secured by South Lanarkshire Council through the Scottish Government, including for Hairmyres Station.
A total of £1.243 million has been provided to give more vital support to people in crisis. This will enable the council to provide more flexible local support through crisis grants and community care grants to people in need.
Some £218,000 has been provided to fund continued support to Ukrainian refugee resettlement and associated services.
An additional £1.818 million has been provided to fund the cost of additional probationer teachers in 2024-25.
This makes up a total of £3.279 million in revenue funding.
Capital funding of £272,000 was given for the Active Travel Infrastructure Fund.
This will be used for the new transport interchange at Hairmyres train station.
East Kilbride councillor John Anderson said: “I would like to welcome this additional fund coming from the Scottish Government. I would like to especially welcome the additional funding for Hairmyres Station which is a major imminent from the Scottish Government of £140million for the East Kilbride Rail Enhancement Project.”
Cllr Fagan told Wednesday’s Executive Committee meeting: “I would also like to welcome the investment in Hairmyres and I would also like to thank all those who stood with us in forcing the Scottish Government to overturn its appalling capital cuts to that project which has allowed us to get back on track.”
