TAZEWELL, Va. -If you have been wanting to add a furry member to your home those at the Tazewell County Animal Shelter, say they have many options for a sweet valentine.
Already sitting at full capacity, the shelter is receiving even more fully vetted animals from one of their partners LMU on Valentine’s Day. The director, Ginny Dawson, of the shelter says although they will always accept donations there is a greater need currently.
“The biggest thing we need right now is adopters. Honestly, we’re very blessed, with wonderful community support, wonderful partners and people always wanting to do what they can. If they can’t open their home to an animal, then to be able to try to provide in other ways, and we are so thankful for that. We will never turn down donations of food, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies. You know, any of those things are always welcome, but right now, our biggest need are good and responsible adopters,” said Ginny Dawson, Director of the Tazewell County Animal Shelter.
When looking to adopt, it’s important to understand the life commitment you’re giving to the pet. So, if you are looking to adopt an animal for someone special, make sure they are a part of the process, and you find your perfect match.
“If you want to provide your valentine with a furry forever friend, bring them with you. That should not be a surprise. It should not be like ‘Surprise! It’s valentine’s day. Here’s a dog. Or a puppy. Or a cat.’ You know, that’s a personal decision that somebody needs to make to have that relationship with an animal and make sure that they’re ready for that commitment and that’s the thing I think on Valentine’s Day, especially it’s good to talk about commitment and you know what that is so if you’re going to commit to a pet as your valentine that it needs to be forever,” continued Dawson.
This Valentine’s Day the shelter is running their Love is in the Air adoption event for their 14 longest residents. Most of them have been at the shelter for six months but others much longer such as Jinxie Marie.
“One of which has been here for two years so, you know, she would definitely love to find a home and love and forever for Valentine’s Day and she’s a great girl. So, you know, we’re hopeful that maybe we can get some people in you know before the end of the week,” said Dawson.
If you are interested in Jinxie Marie or any other pet, the shelter’s hours are 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday are done by appointment. If you are ready for a new valentine the shelter is a great place to find your forever match.
