RICHLANDS, Va. – A second woman has been arrested in connection with the recent student abduction and cruelty case at Richlands Elementary School.
According to a press release from the Richlands Police Department, Ginger Short, 23, of Raven Va. has been charged with two felony counts of Cruelty to a Child and Failure to Report Child Abuse by a Mandatory Reporter.
Earlier this week Jessica McCoy, 41, of Richlands was arrested for taping a 5-year-old special needs student to a desk for a prolonged period of time during the week of February 4 through February 7.
According to police, the incident occurred in a self-contained special education classroom at Richlands Elementary School.
Allegations of child abuse was first reported to the Department of Social Services on February 7 by a school employee. Richlands Police started their investigation on February 10.
Short has been released on a $5,000 bond.
