The latest chapter in the Bridget Jones saga is set to grace UK cinemas today (Friday, February 14), just in time for Valentine’s Day. This fourth film in the series is based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name.
As the movie’s release approaches, featuring Renée Zellweger reprising her Oscar-nominated role as the endearingly clumsy British heroine Bridget Jones, fans are eager to discover who she ultimately ends up with.
WARNING: This article contains significant spoilers from Helen Fielding’s novel Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
Much like the book, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy finds Bridget as a mother of two young children, having married her dream man, Mark Darcy (portrayed by Colin Firth). However, after enjoying marital bliss for a while, Bridget is widowed when Mark passes away.
Bridget embarks on a journey to find love again, with Mad About the Boy introducing two potential suitors: a twenty-something named Roxster (Leo Woodall) and one of her children’s teachers, Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor). A classic Bridget-style mishap in the film’s trailer sees both men coming to her aid, placing her at the centre of a love triangle.

In the novel, Bridget initially dates Roxster after they connect on social media and enjoy a wonderful time together, but it’s not meant to last, reports the Mirror.
Bridget initially finds herself at odds with Mr. Wallaker, who refuses to allow her child to join the school’s chess club, setting up an enemies-to-lovers scenario. A potential romantic moment arises when Mr. Wallaker attempts to kiss Bridget, but she rebuffs him under the mistaken belief that he is married.

Upon discovering that Mr. Wallaker is in fact single, Bridget experiences a complete change of heart regarding her feelings for him. However, their path to romance is not straightforward, as Mr. Wallaker begins dating a younger woman, throwing a wrench into Bridget’s plans.
Eventually, after numerous misadventures and acts of heroism, Bridget and Mr. Wallaker finally become a couple. Despite their commitment to each other, neither Bridget nor Mr. Wallaker have any desire to marry, choosing instead to throw a party to celebrate their relationship.
