MEDFORD, OR. (KDRV) – School was canceled after the entire roof collapsed at the North Medford High School gymnasium in Oregon.

Video caught the exact moment the gym roof collapsed under thousands of pounds of snow.

Work crews were already on scene due to three of the roof’s support beams breaking earlier in the morning, and it only continued to crash down.

“I started hearing like a train noise behind me. And you started to see debris flying up out of the top of it,” said Ron Havniear, Medford School District Executive Director of Security, Leadership and Facilities.

Crews were working alongside the building when it crumbled with men on the crane just feet from the roof.

The roof collapsed with so much force that it pushed a mechanical supervisor against the door, scraping his knees.

While no other injuries were reported, the supervisor was taken to the hospital for a continued check-up.

“Those guys were in the danger zone and doing everything they could to get out of there fast,” said Havniear. “And anybody that was Inside the fence, assessing it basically pulled back.”

While no one was hurt, they say the recent seismic upgrades and braces on the wall helped to keep the collapse from getting worse.

“That reinforcement is likely what kept it there. That wall from just fully collapsing and that could have injured a lot of people because a lot of you guys were on the yep. Yep. Absolutely. I mean, we were we were in the in the hazard area. “
