Elizabeth Berkley, a well-known face in both TV and films, made a surprise appearance in Cobra Kai, much to the delight of fans.

The Netflix Karate Kid spin-off concluded with the final five episodes of season six released on Thursday, February 13.

In season six, episode 13, titled ‘Rattled’, Chozen Toguchi (played by Yuji Okumoto) was left heartbroken when Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita), his childhood love, developed feelings for someone else.

Instead of letting him wallow in self-pity while binge-watching Storage Hunters, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Amanda LaRusso (Courtney Henggeler) arranged a blind date for him with Moon’s mum.

However, viewers were taken aback when his date Winnie, a tarot-card reading, crystal healing and Reiki enthusiast, turned out to be none other than actress Elizabeth Berkley.

Berkley, now 52, rose to fame as Jessie Spano in the iconic teen sitcom Saved By The Bell on NBC in the US and Nickelodeon in the UK.

Known for her outspoken feminist character Jessie, she was part of the main group along with neighbour Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), AC Slater (Mario Lopez) Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen) and Screech Powers (Dustin Diamond).

She had an on-and-off relationship with AC and when she returned for the 2020 Saved By the Bell reboot as Bayside High’s guidance counsellor, it was revealed that they divorced and had been apart for 30 years.

The romance between the duo wasn’t extinct for long, leading them to reignite their spark. Indeed, Berkley’s 36-year career boasts a range of diverse roles, including playing Nomi Malone, an ambitious hitchhiker turned showgirl in the 1995 seductive drama Showgirls, alongside Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.

Berkley’s other notable performances include appearances in ‘The Curse of the Jade Scorpion’, ‘The First Wives Club’, ‘CSI: Miami’, and ‘The L Word’.

What made the star’s time on Cobra Kai even more exciting was the fact her scenes were directed by actor William Zabka, who plays Johnny Lawrence, during Ralph Macchio’s final day filming in Atlanta.

Hayden Schlossberg, one of the minds behind Cobra Kai, recounted to Decider how memorable her stint was: “It was one of the most fun days that we ever had on the show.

“At the end of the day, she’s like: ‘I feel like I’ve been here for three weeks. It’s such a full experience.'”

Cobra Kai is available to watch on Netflix.
